The nearest Pindos National Park “Valia Kalda” is one of the most important and most pristine Forests in Greece. It includes the valley of Valia Kalda, which is located at an altitude of approximately 1400 meters and is surrounded by the mountains Lygos and Mavrovouni (Flegka 2,159 meters) up to the peaks of Mount Avgos (Alt. 2177 meters). The valley is crossed by several streams, the most important of which is the Arkoudorema, which is a tributary of the Aoos. The name “Valia Kalda” means warm valley in Vlach. Apparently the park got its name as a euphemism, due to the fact that it is one of the coldest and wettest areas of Greece.
