Sights of the area The "Nymphs" offer the ideal cultural environment for one to be introduced to the sights, tastes and sounds of a magical place. A short distance from the villas, there are great archeological monuments and pristine beaches, known throughout Europe. Specifically, in the area of Kato Zakros, is the archaeological site of the summer palace of Minos (king of Knossos), while the famous bay of Ermoupolis hosts in its shallow waters the ruins of the ancient sunken city of the same name. Also, in just a few minutes you can find Vai, the only virgin palm forest in Europe, known for its crystal clear turquoise waters and golden sand. Just seven hundred meters from the "Nymphs" one can find the most beautiful and cleanest beaches of Crete. The first beach is of Hiona, always with calm, shallow waters and wonderful sandy beach. The three taverns, located on the edge of the gulf of Hiona, have fanatical guests - branded and not - from all over Greece, due to the delicious fresh fish and the purely Mediterranean flavors they serve. Next to the beach of Hiona is the beach of Kouremenos, a reference point for surfing fans around the world. In general, the whole area is full of picturesque, crystal clear bays. Every visitor has the opportunity to enjoy their swim, either on secluded beaches or among people. Finally, Sitia is located one hour east of Elounda and closer than any other city in Crete on the island of Rhodes (by air), where there is a world-famous casino. The area is climatically in a privileged position, since most of the time it has sunshine with ideal temperatures, minimal rainfall and no humidity.
