Εξαιρετικό οικόπεδο 200μ από τη θάλασσα. Η απόσταση από το κέντρο της Χαλκίδας είναι 4χλμ. Excellent plot of land 200m from the sea. The distance from the center of Chalkida is 4 km. GEOGRAPHY AND WEATHER Evia is second only to Crete in size . Running 175 km. parallel to the mainland ,from the islands of Skiathos and Skopelos in the North, nearly as far as Cape Sounion and Athens in the South it has spectacular scenery. Its width is 45 km. With a small population around 220.000 concentrated mainly in the towns , there are vast areas 3,660 sq kms for you to explore. Evia is unlike any other Greek island - it is alive throughout the year and is largely untouched by commercial tourism. Its wild jagged mountains and 750 km coastline , offer an all-year-round experience not to be missed . Enchanting mountainscapes with peaks of up to 1,800 meters, mountain villages and monasteries alternate with fertile valleys and plateaux, dense woodland and rugged limestone landscapes. It has three large mountain ranges of Alpine proportions Dirfi1743 m and Olymp 1172 m in the central area and Ochi 1400m in the South Ever present is the sea, deep blue and emerald green, steep cliffs and wide sandy or pebbly beaches. For those interested in the sea, apart from numerous beaches, there are scuba diving and international standard water- skiing schools close-by. You can also go horse riding, cycling and in the winter months there is excellent snow skiing on nearby Parnassos. The island has an extensive network of roads, that makes it very easy to get around. Halkida, the main town, which is set at the point that the island is linked by a bridge to the mainland, has a thriving wharfside area which unlike most Greek islands bubbles with life throughout the year. It and the surrounding area is a summer and winter holiday destination for Greeks who have built villas along the shoreline. It has a thriving fishing fleet so, if you are a lover of fish, then this is the place to come. During the Lent period especially the local restaurants offer a bewildering variety of seafood specialities. But don't just stop at the fish - you can drive up into the mountains and taste the biggest steak you have ever had ! Order it by the kilo and watch it being grilled in front of you. There are also a multitude of mouth-watering pies and dishes to be tasted. Agia Anna, Agiokambos, Aedipsos, Amarynthos, Avlonari, Almyropotamos, Vassilika, Lefkandi, Gouves, Eretria, Istiea, Karystos, Kymi, Limni Evias, Lihada, Marmari, Styra, Pefki, Politika, Rovies, Steni Dirfis, Psahna and Orei, are some of the most popular resorts of Evia, as they pulse with natural beauties, traditional aspects, insular mentality, archaeological sites and other interesting sightseeing. Evia is blessed with over 300 days of sun a year, which is more than 8.5 hours a day! The summers are hot and dry, often with a cooling breeze, and winters are short and mild. Most rainfall is between December and February, but even during this time, there are many glorious days with cloudless skies. ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES Evia is situated in an ideal point for visiting Athens and the Acropolis , which is only an hour's drive away, or you can go by train, which links directly with the Athens metro and the new international airport. For those interested in classical antiquities there are also a number of other attractions which can be reached by car. You can visit the ruins at Eretria fabled as the point from which the ships set forth to found the towns of Southern Italy and Rome . Avlida is 10 minutes drive , its seashore now has some excellent seafood restaurants you must visit, but 3000 years ago it was the point where the Greek fleet gathered on their way to conquer Troy, and the poet Euripides wrote a famous tragedy about it - Iphigenia in Avlida. Chalkida itself has had a most varied history as a key strategic point in the Aegean and it is worth visiting the local museum. The town is also only one hour drive away from Mt Parnassus and the Oracle at Delphi with its spectacular ruins. To get there you need to drive through the town of Thiva ancient Thebes , famous for the Oedipus plays, in whose museum you can see the statues excavated from the temple of Artemis in Avlida. ACTIVITY PROGRAMS Evia is the ideal all year round destination. It offers a multitude of activities. ACTIVE NIGHT LIFE Throughout the summer months there are a host of open-air clubs 10 min. drive, many of which have guest DJ's from overseas and live bands. In Chalkida itself there is a thriving wharf area with coffee shops , bars and restaurants which, unlike other islands, are open THROUGHOUT the year - this is a popular destination for Athenians in the winter months. Fish and seafood is the speciality and it is an area that Greeks will travel to from far away, to taste the local specialities SCUBA DIVING There are several scuba diving clubs, all with very experienced professional divers , who have worked for a number of years with international tour groups. They can also arrange for specialised diving instruction leading to PADI or CMAS qualifications If divers are accompanied by any with no diving experience then tuition and a try-dive can be arranged on an individual basis The standard 5 dive package includes : - ALL basic diving equipment including mask, flippers , snorkel and wetsuit - Air or NITROX tanks , weights and breathing equipment - Transport to the beach if necessary - Specialised diving boat HIKING AND WALKING The jagged mountain ranges of Evia are a hiker's paradise. With green forests clinging to the lower slopes and snow on the mountain peaks until May, there are a range of walks throughout the year. For those looking to go off the beaten track there are good large scale maps. Each walk has its surprise. One day may be along the sea shore amongst the pine trees hanging over the rocky shore, another walking down a gorge, another reaching 1,743 metres on the top of Mt Dirfis or walking along the aptly named Razor's Edge. Notes : - Always remember to bring good walking boots - Clothing depends on the time of year ,but you should remember that you will be at a high altitude for some part of the trip and, although the sun may be shining the wind can be cold.. Best times to come are in the Spring, when temperatures are lower and before the summer heat has arrived, and the Autumn months of September to November. WINTER SKIING From the end of January to April , as part of a week's holiday , you can arrange day trips or two day visits with overnight stay to the Mt Parnassus ski resort. This has plenty of lifts with slopes for skiers of all standards. This is an ideal opportunity for those who have not skied to try it out , or for the experienced to mix this with other activities. It is an easy day trip to the slopes and after skiing you have to stop and eat at one of the lovely restaurants on the return route or in the hill town of Arahova itself - maybe to taste the local specialities of fried cheese, tyropitari or saganaki. The winter cuisine in Greece is one of those things not to be missed with a host of dishes, stews and pies unknown to the summer visitor ! WATER SKIING There is a very good water skiing school in Chalkida run by top Greek athletes. The coaches , all of whom are accredited water skiing instructors , offer training at all levels, including slalom, tricks, barefoot and wakeboard . Training includes the use of multimedia and theoretical instruction. Age is no limitation The club operates 3 CORRECT CRAFT 2000 fitted with perfect pass speed controls and auto timing . There are three record capability slalom courses, special novice and barefoot booms, skylon and fat sack for wakeboarding. Notes: - The ski school operates from 1 March to 30 November each year - Apart from skiing you can just relax in the bar next to the pier watching the skiing.. HORSE RIDING Close to Chalkida set in amongst the vineyards and fruit trees is a well established riding club. It has an arena and there are regular competitions held there. Riding tuition can be organised once you have arrived in Chalkida , although since demand for the instructors is very high, it is best to book prior to arrival. In the summer months riding is done either early in the morning or in the evening to avoid the midday heat. The winter program is more flexible. The club also has a good restaurant ask for their delicious salads! where other members of the party can relax , and a play area for younger children. TRADITIONAL AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES. The area has a thriving wine industry - Greek wines are just beginning to reach international tables ! Visits can be arranged to see the small local producers gathering and pressing the crop in Late September / early October. If you come later November/ December you can see the olives being picked and take home with you some real virgin olive oil ! From December you can pick oranges or lemons fresh from the trees
